Oren Martin

Senior Director of Equipping

Meet Oren

I grew up in Houston, TX, and my unbelieving heart was quickly exposed when my father died after I graduated from high school. Lost in hopelessness, I quickly pursued the things of the world and was running away from God. But God—what glorious words!—opened my eyes through his life-giving Word to see the truth and beauty of Christ, who lived the perfect life I could not live and died the death I deserved to die for my sin. In short, God saved me, not because of my works done in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on me richly through Jesus Christ my Savior, so that being justified by his grace I might become an heir according to the hope of eternal life.

I am happily married to Cindy, who is a treasured gift from the Lord. Through marriage and miscarriages, I have watched her cling to our good and wise Lord and trust in his promises as he keeps and cares for her. She constantly encourages me to look to and find my joy in Christ. In countless ways, she has helped me persevere in the Christian life. And by God’s grace, we have three delightful children, Jonathan, Anna, and Benjamin, for whom we are deeply grateful. You can find us hanging out, reading, working out, playing games, watching Texas A&M football and the Houston Astros, and spending time outside.

Before coming to Watermark, I had the privilege of teaching theology at Southern Seminary and Boyce College in Louisville, KY while also publishing several books on theology. I am beyond excited to join the team at Watermark to see people transformed by Christ find their joy in and love like Christ.

Oren Martin is the author of Bound for the Promised Land and co-author of 40 Questions About Biblical Theology.
