“Train up a child in the way he should go.” Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)

We include kids with special needs. Our volunteers have passed security and reference checks and are committed to teaching kids about the God who loves them.

Starting Blocks

Infants - Preschool

A safe, fun environment where children (newborn to preschool) build a solid foundation of faith through activities, music, and storytelling.

Our Wellness Policy

Parents are asked not to bring a child if he/she:

  • Has run a fever within the last 48 hours
  • Has had diarrhea or has vomited in the last 48 hours
  • Has a green or yellow discharge coming from their nose or eyes
  • Has an ongoing cough or sore throat
  • Is known to have any infectious disease such as HFM, croup, etc.

If there is any question as to the health of child, we ask that parents err on the side of caution in order to protect the health of other children in our ministries. Thanks for helping us keep our kids safe and healthy.

K-1 Race

Kindergarten – 1st Grade

Frequently Asked Questions

We take the health and safety of your child in Starting Blocks very seriously. In light of COVID-19, we wanted to share the changes we are making so you can make an educated decision about your child’s return to kid’s ministry. We are committed to taking all reasonable measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while shepherding your child’s heart during their time with us. We can’t wait until everyone is able to join us again on Sunday mornings, but we realize there are many factors that play into your family’s decision to return to face-to-face church or to continue to stream Sunday morning services and utilizing our Kids Kit to teach God’s truth to your children. Here are the current answers to questions you might have.

Will volunteers be screened before serving in a classroom with children?

Yes, all volunteers will go through a mandatory health screening before entering the kid’s area, including temperature checks. They will also be required to wash their hands with soap and water before entering their classroom.

Will my child’s teacher wear a mask?
  • Given the continued spread of COVID in our community, and our desire to do all we can to protect the health of our volunteers and kids, we are now requiring all of our volunteers to wear a face covering when serving.
  • However, we know that there will be times when volunteers will need to remove their face coverings in order to best care for and communicate with the young children in our classrooms. We trust our volunteers to be safe while keeping ministry to the hearts of the kids their top priority.
  • Reading stories, giving instructions, and teaching from stage are some examples of when volunteers might remove their face coverings, so that the children can clearly understand what is being said.
Will there be any changes to the check-in process?

At least one of our check-in kiosks will be manned to create a touchless check-in option for those who prefer that. Our other kiosks will be spaced and stocked with hand sanitizer to allow families to check themselves in as normal.

All elementary classes, including The Dash, will check in at their appropriate classroom. The gaga ball pit is temporarily closed for health and safety purposes.

Can our whole family go together to drop off or pick up our children from their classes?

We are asking that only one person attend the child to reduce crowding in our hallways.

Will children be screened before entering classrooms?
  • Parents will be asked two screening questions about their family’s health as part of the check-in process. We will not be doing temperature checks on children.
  • Each child will have their hands sanitized as they enter the classroom.
Will the class ratios and capacities be the same?

We are reducing both ratios and capacities in each classroom until further notice.

Will my child be interacting with other children in multiple classrooms while they are in kid’s ministry?

We are limiting movement of the classes as much as possible. We are asking that parents take their children to the restroom prior to check-in, but children will still be taken to the restroom during the service if needed.

Kids in Starting Blocks Green and Blue classes as well as all elementary classes will be going to large group for worship and teaching, but all classes will be situated socially distant from other classes in the room.

Will my child be eating snacks during their time in kids’ ministry?

With the exception of our infants that need to drink a bottle during their time with us, we will not be providing goldfish or having special snacks. Please make sure your child has eaten before dropping them off in their classroom.

When will kids’ ministry be available and for what ages?

All kids ministries, infants to 5th grade, will be available at both the 9 AM and 11 AM services. Openings may be limited according to the number of volunteers available.

What can I do to help?
  • Thank you for asking! If any member of your household has been ill within 48 hours prior to attending church (including vomiting, diarrhea, discolored mucus, cough, or a temperature greater than 99.9), please keep your child at home. This also applies if anyone in your household has been exposed to COVID-19 in the past two weeks. Also, make sure they eat a good breakfast (no snacks), take them to the bathroom before service, use a pull-up if they are potty training, and wash their hands before dropping them off.
  • Be patient with us. Check-in will take a little longer as we assess the health of each child before entering the classroom.
  • You can serve with us! Not all of our volunteers are comfortable yet serving in a classroom with children. In order to best serve those families who are ready to drop off their children, we need additional volunteers. Click here for more information about serving with us.
