John Weary

Meet John

I was born and raised in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado with a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains and Pikes Peak. Growing up in a home where Christ was at the center, I am so grateful for the gift of an incredible family that love Jesus and each other with everything we got. I am twin AND I have younger brothers who are twins, so life was always an exciting adventure in the Weary home.

Early in elementary school I began to personally wrestle with questions about God and faith. That wrestling led me to the book The Case for Christ: Kids Version, and in walking through that book with my parents and Sunday school teacher, I felt a peace and desire to give my life to Christ! While I didn’t have the answer to every question, I understood that I was a sinner in need of a savior and that Jesus Christ paid the price for my sin and was inviting me to new life in him. I made the personal decision to confess him as my Lord and Savior and was baptized soon after. My story since then has truly been a tale of God’s unfailing love and grace despite my best and worst efforts in following him.

Near the end of high school, the Lord began opening doors for me to see and experience serving in the church and I began to feel a pull to church ministry. Over the last 8 years, the Lord has been faithfully growing me in my personal walk with him and training me to serve in ministry while studying at Wheaton College and Dallas Theological Seminary. The Lord opened the door for me to serve alongside our incredible Kids Team in our 4-5 ministry and I am so excited for all that He has in store for kids here at Watermark!

I am married to my best friend Rebekah, who I met all the way back in 5th grade, and we are anticipating the arrival of our first child, a little baby boy, in May! I am a huge football fan, but I love most sports/anything competitive in nature. I am a big fan of good food (email me if you have a must-try spot). I love being outside, hiking, paddle boarding… odds are high you might find me at one of the lakes around the DFW area!
