Meet Avery
I was born and raised in Edmond, OK and grew up in a Christian home. I’m #3 of 4 kids and have two amazing parents, who we kept pretty busy growing up! My siblings and I played almost every sport possible and loved being outside. If we were not at practice or a game, we were hanging out with the neighborhood kids, crafting, or finding a new recipe to bake.
When I was 8, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and was baptized at our family’s church. Fast forward to 2017, I moved to Waco, TX, to go to Baylor University. I was so excited to go to school there and was involved in Greek life, lead new student orientation groups, and was a university tour guide. If there was a social event, I was probably there! As much fun as college was, there were also a lot of challenges and influences, and I chose to look to the things and people of the world for acceptance and comfort. During my senior year, I realized how empty I felt, and that I had placed my worth and identity in the world. I had been living for myself and didn’t know if God would really want a relationship with me after I had spent so long choosing the world over Him. I wanted to know God more deeply and started praying for Him to change my heart. He quickly answered those prayers, and my excitement for God grew immensely. I soon became a member at a church in Waco and got to join a life group right after graduation. From there, I learned how to live authentically in community, began to study and apply God’s word, and experienced a joy that I had not had before!
God rewrote a lot in my life and my love for the world changed to loving the One who created it. I still enjoyed gathering and connecting with people, but now could I glorify God and make Him known while doing so. After graduation, I became a full-time staff member at Baylor and helped with campus recruiting events, and then later did corporate recruiting for a home care company. After being in Waco for 4 years, God opened a door to come work at Watermark with events, and I could not be more excited to be here! If I’m not with people for work, you can still find me planning a dinner or game night, spending time outside with friends, going to the farmer’s market, or baking a sweet treat!
