OPENER

Everyone gets impatient at times, especially with pet peeves. What pet peeves do you have and how do you react to them?

James 5:7-12 - Read it aloud yourself, or ask someone who is a confident reader. Ask the others to listen carefully and follow along.

DISCUSS

  1. Has there ever been a time when you were sure you were being treated unfairly? How did you want to respond?

  2. James says that as we wait for the Lord we should not “grumble against one another...” (v.9) Why would waiting, specifically in the midst of suffering, cause us to grumble?

  3. What three examples of patience does James give us in verses 5- 17? (Farmers, Prophets, Job) Why are these significant?

  4. Read James 5:8: Why should expecting the Lord’s coming make you patient?

  5. What kinds of things do you know the Lord has called you to persevere in doing, even in the midst of opposition or evil?

  1. How does prayer make a difference in the lives of believers? What can be accomplished through prayer?

  2. Read James 5:16: What hinders Christians from confessing sins and praying for each other?

  3. Is there anything you need to confess to the group this week so you may find healing?

  4. "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." Spend time praying together.
