New to the Kit or looking for helpful hints on how to use it? Check out the Kids Kit Tips and Tricks - Elementary Edition where we share detailed instructions about the resources below.
Our elementary curriculum builds on the biblical foundation laid for kids in preschool. We want elementary kids to see the excellent character of our all-powerful God and why He is the hero of every story. We do that by looking at 36 godly character traits – one per month – with weekly Finish Lines that teach kids about God, His Word, and how He can help us reflect His character to the world.
Our character trait for October is DISCERNMENT! Check out the Monthly Overview for a snapshot of everything we will be learning about this month.
Use these activities to keep talking about and applying what you learned this weekend throughout the week.
Read Proverbs 3:5-6 together and talk about it as a family. Why is it sometimes tempting to depend on what you think or know? Who CAN we trust in and why? (Trust in the Lord because He is all-knowing and all-seeing. He will guide us with His perfect wisdom. We can always come to Him for direction.) As a family, talk about some specific examples where you will need to use discernment this week.
God used Paul to tell many people about Jesus. Parents, talk with your kids about who told you about Jesus. Think about friends or family members who don’t know about Jesus yet. How could God use your family to tell them the Good News? If you’ve already shared the gospel with them, how can you continue to obey God, pray for them, and show His love to them?
Obeying God might have seemed scary to Ananias. Have you ever been afraid to trust and follow God, even though you knew it was the right thing to do? Pray and thank God for always walking with us and having a plan bigger and better than we can see. Ananias could not have fully understood how God was going to use Saul/Paul in the future. Ask God to help you trust Him and use discernment in any situation you face, even the scary or uncomfortable ones.
Play “Simon Says” together as a family. Talk with your kids and ask them how they can use discernment in this game. Why do they have to stop and think? What happens if they are not listening? How must they choose whether to act or not and then go with that decision? How can you take the parts of discernment you have to use in this game and use them in your daily life?
Father thank you for always thinking ahead of me and showing me which path I need to take. Help me to trust you in any situation that I face.
