New to the Kit or looking for helpful hints on how to use it? Check out the Kids Kit Tips and Tricks - Elementary Edition where we share detailed instructions about the resources below.

Our elementary curriculum builds on the biblical foundation laid for kids in preschool. We want elementary kids to see the excellent character of our all-powerful God and why He is the hero of every story. We do that by looking at 36 godly character traits – one per month – with weekly Finish Lines that teach kids about God, His Word, and how He can help us reflect His character to the world.

Our character trait for JANUARY is GENTLENESS! Check out the Monthly Overview for a snapshot of everything we will be learning about this month.

More ways to have a great week of worship...

Use these activities to keep talking about and applying what you learned this weekend throughout the week.

Teacher: Meal Time

READ JOHN 11:32-44 Why do you think Jesus was so emotional? (We don’t know for sure, but it might have been because He saw the hurt that sin and death brought His dear friends. He was sad that His friend died. He was upset that they had to live in a world that was broken and caused pain. He felt compassion and kindness for them in their sadness because He loved them.) Have you ever cried or been upset when someone you loved was hurting? Take some time to share as a family tough circumstances you have gone through. Talk about ways to respond gently that you can put into practice when someone you know is in a tough circumstance.

Friend: Drive Time

Make up hand motions to help you memorize this month’s memory verse, Ephesians 4:2. Once you have it down, try to sing the memory verse to the tune of whatever song comes on the radio next. Keep playing until you find a song that fits!

Counselor: Bedtime

Who do you know that is in the middle of hard circumstances and needs to hear the reason for your hope? Take some time to pray for anyone you know who is in a hard circumstance right now. Ask God to help you respond in a kind and careful way to others who need to hear the truth and hope of Christ this week.

Coach: Anytime

Take turns listing out characteristics that are true about God. These characteristics of God are encouraging when you are in hard time and can be used to encourage others. Make it a game by playing the alphabet game (Example: A-Awesome, B-Bigger than my fears, C-Comforter, etc.), OR choose a word and make an acrostic with the characteristics (Example: GENTLENESS . . . G-Good, E-Empathetic, N-Never leaves us, etc.). Assign one person to be your scribe to write down a list as you go and post it somewhere in your house!

Prayer

Father, thank you for teaching us through your word how to be gentle and kind. Help us to have compassion for others that are going through a hard circumstances as we share truth and love.
