New to the Kit or looking for helpful hints on how to use it? Check out the Kids Kit Tips and Tricks - Elementary Edition where we share detailed instructions about the resources below.
Our elementary curriculum builds on the biblical foundation laid for kids in preschool. We want elementary kids to see the excellent character of our all-powerful God and why He is the hero of every story. We do that by looking at 36 godly character traits – one per month – with weekly Finish Lines that teach kids about God, His Word, and how He can help us reflect His character to the world.
Our character trait for October 18 & 25 is SERVICE!
Use these activities to keep talking about and applying what you learned this weekend throughout the week.
Read 1 Peter 4:8-11 and talk through the following questions with your family:
Learn the memory verse as a family while you are in the car. Practice “popcorn style,” where each family member says one word until the entire verse is completed. Write it on an index card and keep it in the car. Write it with wipe off markers on a car window. As you are learning it, let each person explain what they think it means in their own words.
There are many ways we can meet the needs of others. Sometimes being a friend or listening and praying for someone is a great way to meet their need for love. Think of someone you know who has a need you could pray for (maybe they are sad, have a broken arm, or their family is having trouble getting along). Spend some time praying for that person. Ask God to meet their needs in ways that only He can.
Give each person in your family four index cards. Explain you are all going to fill out the cards with four different acts of service they will do this week. Each person needs to think of the who, the what, and the why of each act of service. The goal is to serve without bringing attention to yourselves. When everyone has finished filling out the cards, take some time to pray over the cards asking God for the opportunity to complete these acts of service.
Say a prayer thanking God for the gifts he has freely given us. Ask him to reveal how you can use those gifts to spread the gospel.
