My name is Sammy. I was raised in Wylie, TX and was fortunate enough to grow up in a household led by two parents who loved Jesus.
I attended a local church faithfully for 8 years. While I’d say I learned how to “do church” very well, I also learned how to wear a mask. Confession, repentance, and sanctification were taught at my church, but no one actually shared their struggles openly or authentically. As a result, I felt as though I had to hide myself to live up to expectations set from the pulpit. After nearly a decade, I walked away from the Church exhausted and defeated from the effort it took to hide my struggles.
When I showed up at the doors of Watermark, I was spiritually bruised and battered. I felt that no man, let alone Jesus, could love me due to the sins and afflictions I was carrying. Through the leaders of Watermark Student Ministries and their willingness to pursue me, I eventually began my journey to become a devoted follower of Christ. Now I know what it means to be fully known, and as a result, fully loved.
I’ve made it a habit to pick up a new hobby each year. In 2013, I picked up a camera and never put it down. That decision afforded me many career opportunities, like working for a faith-based stock photo company called Lightstock, and a Scripture listening app called Dwell. I’m so grateful that I get to be a sub-creator who gets to make Jesus more famous.
