Born and raised in Minnesota, I found myself in the great state of Texas when I joined the soccer team at Abilene Christian University. The plan was to head back north after college, but that was thwarted when I married Paul, who was in medical school in Fort Worth. For a time, I pursued a career in public accounting and was seeking financial security and success in the eyes of the world, but I couldn’t get rid of the nagging feeling that there had to be more to life than fleeting success. This desire for more led to a season of searching for the source of true happiness.
Matthew 7:7 was true for me as this seeking led to finding. God called me to himself in the Spring of 2017 after a few friends were radically changed by encounters with Jesus. The joy they had found is what I was longing for and I decided it was time to start living “fully surrendered” to Jesus and to the words of the Bible. I started attending the Porch in Fort Worth and began to grow in my faith through studying the Bible, through living in community, and through the Equipped Disciple course.
From that point forward everything changed, including my career-path. I wanted to understand more about my faith and also desired to spend more time in ministry work rather than at a corporate job, so I applied for and was accepted into the Watermark Institute. From there, a spot opened up on the Equipping Team to help support a few of my favorite ministries and I jumped at the opportunity. Experiencing God at work in and through others brings me so much joy and has strengthened my faith immensely. I’m fully convinced that there is no better way to live than by using my time and talents to help others know and learn from Jesus.
