I’m San Francisco born and Oklahoma raised, but it was college that brought me to a relationship with Jesus. I spent most of my young life thinking that I had to be perfect. I grew up going to church and heard a lot about rituals and rules but never the gospel. After my church split apart, combined with my grandma’s passing away from cancer, everything changed. I stopped trying to live for God and started living for myself. I dreamed of being a big city fashion designer, but God had other plans. In my sophomore year of college (Sic ‘em Bears), a friend invited me to church. I went to “check the box” but for the first time heard the concept of grace. I finally understood Galatians 2:21: “I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
I met my husband, Sam, on a trip to Ethiopia. Marriage is awesome! Now I like coffee and hiking, and he likes musicals and candles. I didn’t end up as a fashion designer, but I did have stints at the Dallas Cowboys (no, not as a special teams coordinator as my husband likes to joke) and Michaels Craft Stores primarily working with international suppliers. It wasn’t until Awaken, Watermark’s Young Adult conference, that my eyes were opened to how God was using Watermark all over the nation and world. I now get the privilege of helping churches across the country implement Watermark ministries. After growing up in a broken church, it’s cool to see the global church move in ways I didn’t think possible!
