Meet Benson

I’m thrilled to help our Members find fantastic ways to use their talents and passions inside and outside Watermark.

I grew up in a Christian family, and my parents and a Sunday school teacher introduced me to Jesus at an early age. But even after years of growth through my family and Christian school, God impacted me even more deeply through college ministries and classmates (Go Aggies!).

Little did I know, but in that amazing “incubator” God was preparing me for adventures I couldn't imagine. He surprised me with early graduation from a college I loved so I could go to “a land He would show me” (which turned out to be Abilene, Texas). The next several years included nearly a decade of ministry with college students, opening and running a textbook store with ministry aims, and a yearlong road trip to observe college ministry throughout the United States. (I’ve visited schools in every state but Alaska and have the T-shirts to prove it!) I also had the chance to visit hundreds of church worship services, and somewhere in there I got a degree from Southwestern Seminary.

Through all my ministry adventures, I learned a lot about trusting God. I’m not very entrepreneurial by personality, but I tried to keep saying Yes to whatever God showed me. And God also used those adventure years to foster humility and to fight the "leaning on my own understanding" that easily rears its ugly head. I started attending Watermark in 2008, and here I reconnected with a college buddy, Catherine...who became my wife in May of 2013. We live with our kiddos, Sophie and Wilson, in the very nearby suburb of Farmers Branch.

I’m excited to be in a newly created role that we hope will help Watermark Members find even better and deeper ways to serve. Being exposed to so many different ministries and so many different people has deepened my appreciation for individual uniqueness – in personality, strengths, and the “best and highest use” God prepares each of us for.
