Should a Local Church Have a Higher Standard For Membership Than Membership in Heaven?

Should a Local Church Have a Higher Standard For Membership Than Membership in Heaven? We answered that question this week’s episode of Real Truth. Real Quick.

Show Notes:

Principles:

  1. The local church is not a means of salvation.
  2. The local church is a means of santification, and a means to which you can experience the grace and mercies of God.
  3. We’re saved by grace through faith alone, but the faith which saves is never alone. It should be accompanied by good works.
  4. Membership in a local church is a part of the sanctification process, and it is the job of spritual leaders to protect the flock from perverse teachers and their teachings.
  5. Good shepherds protect the flock from wolves and even unruly (bully) sheep.

Scripture:

“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

“Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.” 1 Corinthians 4:1

“Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.” Acts 20:28

“I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;” Acts 20:29

“and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.” Acts 20:30

“But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,” 1 Timothy 4:1

“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;”   Romans 10:9

“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.”   Matthew 18:15

“But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you…”   Matthew 18:16

“If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.”   Matthew 18:17

“It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father’s wife.” 1 Corinthians 5:1

“You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed

from your midst.” 1 Corinthians 5:2

“For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though

I were present.” 1 Corinthians 5:3

“I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 5:5
