First time to do the Family Night Challenge? Watch our intro video first.

This Week's Lesson: Stephen's Faithfulness

To learn about Stephen read Acts 7 together as a family.

Watch Jeff Parker's message from Sunday, August 23.

Are the Knights going to forgive each other?

Family Night Discussion Questions:

  1. What type of person was Stephen?
  2. Why were the men angry with Stephen?
  3. Did the people listen to what Stephen had to say?
  4. How did Stephen respond when the crowd said and did mean things to him?
  5. Is there a time when someone did or said something that hurt you? How did you respond?
  6. Is forgiving others easy?
  7. Why should we forgive others?

Family Night Ideas for Fun:

  • Play tic tac toe on the driveway with sidewalk chalk.
  • Create forgiveness stones. Each family member finds a stone outside. With a sharpie marker, write a word or two on the stone of a time when someone did or said something hurtful (ie. Mean words). When everyone is done, talk about forgiveness and how beautiful our forgiveness of others is to God. Practice forgiveness. Say, “I forgive _____ for _______.” Use colorful sharpies or paint to cover over the hurts. Remind your child that there is beauty in forgiveness.
  • Draw a large heart on a piece of poster board or paper. As a family, take smaller pieces of paper and write a hurtful things on them (ie. You talk funny, your hair is weird, you aren’t smart, etc). Make several “mean” papers. When done, crumple each individual paper up to make “stones”. Place each “stone” inside the heart. Get a small trash can for a game. Place the trash can a few feet away from the heart with the stones in it. When you say go, everyone picks up a “stone” and tries to throw them in the trash as quickly as possible. When all the stones have been removed from the heart, talk about how forgiveness clears the heart of hurts and bad feelings.
  • OR choose your own fun activity.

Throughout the summer we have a unique opportunity to learn together as families. Our entire church, from preschool to elementary to adults, will be focusing on the same Bible passage each week. To make the most of this time, we are issuing the Summer Family Night Challenge! Here is what you need to do:

  1. Watch the Sunday message together as a family either online or in person. Find the Plano messages here.
  2. Set aside a night of the week to be your Family Night for the next six weeks.
  3. Visit the Plano Kids Kit page each week for videos, discussion questions and fun activity ideas that you can use to plan your Family Night.

Your two goals for your Family Night should be to have fun and have some intentional conversation around God's Word.
