Our mission is to help people become fully devoted followers of Christ.
This involves:
- Reaching out to and engaging people who are far from God—the unchurched, the de-churched, the dead churched and the unmoved
- Helping people enter into life transforming relationships with Christ (Believe)
- Helping our body grow in their devotion to and application of the ‘one anothers’ of Scripture (Belong) and their understanding and response to God’s word, purposes and people. (Be Trained)
- Supporting and encouraging people as they seek to be the church (loving God and loving people) in their neighborhoods and workplaces—both in Dallas and around the world. (Be Strong)

How do buildings assist in our vision/strategy?
- Watermark has always been about building hearts, not about building buildings.
- We continue to invest in technologies and brainstorm ideas on how to make a large church smaller and how to reach the unreached through innovation and change. We realize the “next 100” who come to Watermark may only touch us via the internet or through core members intentionally initiating friendship in the neighborhood and/or workplace. Buildings are simply a resource entrusted to us to be used in the process of building hearts and seeing people be transformed.
- The buildings give us a consistent place where people can come and hear about the life transforming message of Christ and a safe place to gather and experience love and grace. This is true not only on Sunday, but every day of the week with ministries like re:generation (our biblical recovery ministry meeting on Monday nights), The Porch (Tuesday nights), Reengage, marriage preparation, Divorce Care (Wednesday nights), and Men’s and Women’s Journey Bible studies (Wednesday and Thursday mornings and nights).
Watermark Children's Ministry And Learning Center
The next phase of the Watermark Campus involves transforming the former worship building into a two-story Children's Ministry and Learning Center.
The Watermark Children’s Ministry and Learning Center will include:
- Meeting areas designed to facilitate our ministry to kindergarten - 3rd grade children. The space will feature movable walls, creating an even larger meeting area for a joint worship and learning experience for parents and kids. This new ministry will allow Watermark parents to worship and learn with their kids and provide a great place to invite new families to come and experience the joy of learning about Christ in a family environment.
- Rooms to facilitate our small group time with kids and other rooms to care for our ever-increasing number of infants and toddlers.
- Creative staging space so we can employ music, drama and excellent teaching to encourage, grow and develop our children like never before.
- Play areas and other necessary resources for kids.
- Our 4th and 5th graders will meet on the second floor of the Watermark Tower, and junior and senior high will continue to meet on the fourth floor of the Tower.
Total Cost:
The total cost for the new Children's Builing is $14.5 million. We are still in the process of finalizing the numbers from our November 15, 2011 deadline. We will update you with the number as soon as we have it.
Scheduled Completion:
If we start by the end of this year, December 2011, we will complete the Children's Building in time for the August 2012 back to school rush.
Is This Good Stewardship?
Building projects are expensive and this one is no exception. Since we purchased the property in 2003, building costs have skyrocketed and Watermark’s leaders have grappled with what God would have us do in terms of facilities.
We believe that this building project is God’s next step for us:
- It will allow us to reach thousands of additional people in the Dallas area who are far from God
- It will allow us to continue to build fully devoted followers that God can use to impact every part of Dallas and the world beyond. To be clear, what we’re building is a battleship, not a cruise ship. We have a facilities team comprised of building professionals overseeing the project. This team has more than one hundred years of combined experience in both commercial and ministry use developments.
- Our facilities team has worked hard to make sure we are good stewards in this process:
- Designing the building to insure that we get the most value for the dollars we invest
- Getting multiple bids from every sub-contractor to make sure we are getting the best prices.
- Value engineering every part of the project to take out costs where we can without compromising ministry effectiveness or vision.
- It’s also important to note that we’re not slowing down any of our ministry activity as a result of the building project. We continue to move forward with ministries all over Dallas, in Denver, South America, Africa and wherever else God takes us.
