Wes Butler

Director of Family & Children's Ministry

Meet Wes

I had the privilege of serving as the Director of Single Adult ministry from September of 2004 until April of 2012, and am now Watermark's Director of Children's Ministry. Growing up in a solid Christian home and trusting Jesus as my Savior at a very young age, I remember as early as the age of nine being convinced that there is nothing else I would rather give my life to than to serving the Lord in the context of the local church.

I met my wife, Brandy, a stunning soprano from San Antonio, at Hardin-Simmons and we have been married since July of 1997 when we were still sophomores in college (and clinically insane). Dreaming of having a large family, Brandy and I hit a bump in the road when infertility came into the picture for us. Thankfully, the Lord had prepared us for this ahead of time by giving us a heart for orphans and for the beautiful gift of adoption. Since that time, we have adopted 3 amazing kids, 2 domestically, and 1 from Ethiopia. We pray that the Lord is not done adding to our family through adoption and continue to pray towards our next adoption.

When Brandy and I stepped into the doors of Lake Highlands High School in 2002 where Watermark was meeting at that time, we knew we’d found a church that shared our desire for the church to be more fully what the Lord had intended it to be, and we never looked back. Through my years serving in children’s ministry and my relationship with Brandy who was raised in a single parent home, I was drawn to be a part of the Single Adult ministry as an intern in 2003. The Lord was so good to allow me to work and to expand that role to include the development of our DivorceCare ministry that serves adults as well as kids and teens whose parents are going through a divorce. I also got to help single adults engage with God’s mission outside the walls of the church, connecting them with our External Focus ministry partners here in Dallas and around the world. My prayer is that I will continue to be used by the Lord in this role to minister to the hurting, engage the disengaged, and mobilize the servants of God for the mission He has called us all to.
