I grew up in Lawrence, Kansas with my fabulous parents and older brother, Bryan. Until I was fourteen, I had spent my life wandering far from God and had experienced the emptiness that comes from chasing the fleeting things of this world. But in His kindness, God captivated my heart on a trip to Young Life camp through leaders who loved me well and a camp speaker who brought to life the truth of John 10:10 (The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.).
When I was a sophomore in high school, my husband Blake and I were set up on a blind date to the school play. We dated all through high school, college (Rock Chalk Jayhawk!), and then were married shortly after graduation in 2011. Blake’s job brought us to Dallas immediately after our wedding and we love it here! I have a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and I worked as a nurse at a couple different Dallas hospitals for four years before God provided an opportunity for me to come on board at Watermark in late 2015.
In the spring of 2013, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and underwent seven months of chemotherapy. While cancer was certainly not something we were expecting in our first year and a half of marriage, God used that time to increase our trust in Him, abundantly provide for us, and strengthen our marriage in ways we could have never anticipated. I also have a new found appreciation for hair and immune systems (Seriously, just ponder for a second the utility of your nose hair and eyelashes - our Creator knows what He’s doing!). My cancer-free rebirthday is November 12, 2013 and we celebrate it every year just like my normal birthday! When I’m not at work, I love spending time with our chocolate Labradoodle, Clover (hundreds of pictures are available, all you need to do is ask), trying new restaurants with Blake, doing any type of sewing or crafting, and hanging out with the high school girls I get to disciple through Watermark’s student ministry. I love all things dessert-related, the beach, warm weather, a clean set of sheets on the bed, and the fact that God isn’t done with me yet (Philippians 1:6)!
