Meet Emily

I’m just a small town girl . . . who somehow ended up in the big city. I grew up in Athens, Texas, which you may know as the home of the hamburger.

The gospel captivated me at an early age and I knew that once I made the choice to follow Jesus, there was no turning back! Though I walked faithfully with Him, I often made my faith more about the “dos and don’ts” than a personal relationship with the Lord, resulting in horribly misplaced pride and a tendency to judge others. Yuck! Through camp at Abilene Christian University each summer, first as a camper and later as a counselor, I was reminded over and over again that there is nothing I can do to make God love me or anyone MORE, and there’s nothing I can do to make God love me or anyone LESS! That’s Good News indeed, gang.

I went to school at ACU, and it was here where the Lord opened my eyes to the fact that this world’s brokenness exists as much in our own backyards as it does anywhere else. I knew that whatever I did with my life, I wanted it to be rooted in loving in the name of Jesus those who are hurting.

I moved to Dallas and spent two years working for a nonprofit organization. After getting more and more involved at Watermark, I felt the Lord stirring my heart to grow and serve in a new way – on staff – and vowed to say yes to whatever door God opened. I’m daily encouraged by the way God is moving in this body of believers to further His kingdom in Dallas, and am humbled to get to play a small part!

My friends would tell you I’m an old soul. I try to travel to at least three new places each year, but am a homebody at my core. I love small towns, Autumn, drive-in movies, the State Fair of Texas, belting out oldies in my car, and reading in my hammock. If any one of these things is involved, I will be quick to tell you that I’m in my happy place.
