ABOUT US

Who we are: Followers of Christ, Watermark Fellows

Watermark is a local church committed to helping others become fully-devoted followers of Christ. We exist to reach the unchurched, de-churched, dead-churched and unmoved, and to encourage, equip, serve, and sustain those already devoted to Christ. Unofficially we are the second-best place to work in Dallas (just ask the Dallas Morning News). Officially, we are biblically-based, grounded in grace, passionate about prayer, authentic in our walks, committed to the uncommitted and the larger community, and focused on being used by God to advance His Kingdom. If you thought that was a mouthful… it was. The calling, convictions, commitments, and core values of Watermark are essential to who we are and what we do. We encourage you to read Watermark’s full doctrinal statement here and our vision and values here.

What we do:

Our Fellows and Residents alike are immediately treated like full members of our team and owners of our ministries. We work with professionalism and high trust. Fellows are entrusted with meaningful responsibilities and will receive real ministry and leadership experience over the course of the year.

DETAILS

Schedule: The Fellowship runs from August 2018 to May 2019.

Daily: Opportunities to shadow and lead with ministry directors inside and outside of your specialty
Monday (all day): Community time, class time, and director teaching
Tuesday (morning): Staff Prayer, Ministry team meeting
One Friday morning each month: Theology and Apologetics
Weekly: Other ministry events and team commitments specific to each team
Yearly: All-hands-on-deck events: Baptism, Church Leaders Conference, Christmas Eve, and Easter

Curriculum:

Old and New Testament, Systematic Theology, and Apologetics. Fellows will learn how to read and teach the Bible while they are studying it cover to cover. In addition to Old and New Testament surveys, you will also learn a biblical worldview and be prepared to answer the most commonly asked questions about the Christian faith. It is an intense workload, but can you think of anything better to study?

Commitment:

The commitment for Fellows is one day of class as well as 20 additional hours with their team during the week. (Weekly class time and preparation does not count toward the 20 hours.) All time spent serving with ministry teams after the twenty hours is considered volunteer service. Fellows are encouraged to spend as much time as they are willing and able with their teams and with other ministries as various opportunities are made available.

Service:

Fellows are paired with the team that most closely aligns with their vocational aspirations. Teams available to Fellows include: Children, College, Community, Connecting, Equipping, External Focus, Frontlines, Marriage, Pastoral Care and Recovery Ministry (re:generation), Students (Jr. and Sr. High), Worship and Tech Arts, and Young Adults.

Finances:

Each Fellow is given both a monthly stipend and housing accommodations. Fellows are also given the opportunity to work part-time outside of the church, or internally at Watermark with our Training Ground ministry, Watermark Coffee, as well as our Facilities team. External employment is an option if it does not conflict with the Fellowship requirements. We strongly advise you not to apply if you have a considerable amount of debt. Candidates are not permitted to work full-time because of the demands of the Fellowship.

REFLECTIONS FROM ALUMNI

Calvin Strain, Class of ’17, real estate investor -

“I felt called to full-time vocational ministry. The Fellowship was an opportunity to explore that calling and learn theology at the same time. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding years of my life, and I am grateful for the experience and the lifelong friendships I made.”

Connor Baxter, Class of ’17, Watermark Community Team Staff -

“The Fellowship deepened my love for the Lord and knowledge of His Word (Matthew 22:37). It is full of people who love the Lord and are learning how to better love and lead others in the context of vocational ministry. Ministry is often ‘caught, not taught’, and this was learning by doing.”

Connor Boyd, class of ’17, Studying at Hebrew University in Jerusalem -

“The Fellowship was an opportunity for hands-on ministry with a staff family filled with wisdom, encouragement, and a commitment to further God's Kingdom.”

Kirby Wagner, class of ’17, Watermark Equipping Team -

“There is no better way that I could have spent this last year. I gained a deeper love for God, a greater knowledge of His Word, and new passion to pass it on.”

Dinah Smith, class of ’17, Watermark Worship Team -

“The best part of The Fellowship was finding new intimacy with Jesus. Learning His Word and being with His people resulted in a deeper understanding of who God is.”

Jayson Fisher, Class of ’17, Watermark Plano Frontlines Team -

“I knew I wanted to work within the church, but needed a place where I could get practical ministry experience and receive feedback on my performance. In my previous position in ministry, there was very little oversight, so I was not able to gauge if I was an effective minister of the gospel and shepherd of those I was leading. The Fellowship allowed me to jump into the ‘deep end’ of ministry while having access to a mentor to help sharpen my gifts.

“The Fellowship is rewarding, hard work, and it requires great sacrifices of your time, resources, and energy. I would seek counsel from former Watermark Fellows and your own community of friends as you prayerfully ask the Lord if The Fellowship is the right step in your life. I am thankful for this opportunity to learn and jump into challenging ministry situations.”
