Bless the Lord, who is my rock, he gives me strength for war, and skill for battle. He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my deliverer. He stands before me as a shield, and I take refuge in Him. He subdues the nations under me.
Psalm 144:1-2

In 2004 the Watermark congregation celebrated the Fourth of July by writing letters and praying for Watermark member LT Donovan Campbell and the Marines in his unit who were stationed in Iraq and engaged in frequent combat operations. That service sparked the idea for Watermark to begin a Military Ministry to pray for and support the soldiers and their families connected with Watermark.

On July 3, 2005, Donovan was back from Iraq and spoke at both Sunday services to tell the Watermark family about his time in that battle-torn country, the courage and character of his Marines, and the impact the Church's letters and prayers had on his men. While in Iraq, Donovan prayed with his men before each combat patrol. He told the Watermark congregation that after returning safely from some especially dangerous missions, the unbelieving Marines wanted to know more about "this prayer thing" because they were seeing the results with their own eyes. Watermark earnestly desires to support the men and women serving our country in the Armed Forces by praying for and ministering to each of the military personnel connected to the Watermark body. We hope that the Military Ministry pages will encourage the Watermark body to pray for our service men and women by name on a daily basis.

Watermark's Military Ministry also serves as a reminder that we all are engaged in the war against terrorism and that we, as believers in Christ, are on the front lines of the spiritual battle raging in our country and throughout the world today. Our spiritual enemy is just as real and deadly as the terrorists we are battling. While terrorists seek to destroy the freedoms we cherish as Americans, our spiritual foe seeks to destroy our spiritual freedom to follow and serve Christ. For more on this topic, listen to Todd's July 4, 2004 message Letters from Home.

In Ephesians 6, Paul reminds us that we face a spiritual battle and he exhorts us to "be strengthened in the Lord" and to depend on "the strength of His power." Eph 6:11. Paul exhorts us "with every prayer and petition, to pray at all times in the Spirit, and to this end be alert, with all perseverance and requests for all the saints." Eph 6:18.

Through Watermark's Military Ministry, we hope to facilitate your prayers for and support of our military personnel around the world.
