Premarital Ministry Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to take the premarried class and go through counseling?
- Many couples spend a great deal of time preparing for their wedding day, but most couples do not adequately prepare for their marriage. We believe the class and premarital counseling will help you in your relationship and help prepare you for your marriage. The class is designed to help provide you with specific skills and knowledge related to marriage, while premarital counseling is designed to give you more specific, objective feedback on strengths and growth areas of your relationship.
What if I cannot take the Watermark premarital class?
- If you desire two-to-two premarital counseling with a mentor couple but cannot attend the class, please attend this recommended retreat:
FamilyLife Conferences - Weekend to Remember
- Conference Location: various cities around Texas
- Conference Dates and Registration
Do I have to be a member of Watermark to complete the class?
- No. The class is open to both members and non-members. Whether you attend church or not, we believe this class will help prepare you for marriage. We are glad to have you join us regardless of whether or not you go to church.
When is the ideal time to go through the class?
- We recommend going through the class at least 6 months prior to your wedding date. This allows you time to complete the class and to go through two-on-two premarital counseling.
What if I’m getting married in less than 6 months?
- If your wedding date is less than 6 months away, please contact Emily McKeaigg and she will assist you in next steps. We will do our best to serve you wherever you may be in your dating relationship.
Where is the premarital class located?
- The class will be offered in the Watermark Tower. There will be signs in the lobby of the building directing you where to go for the class.
Is food provided for the class?
- We will not provide dinner, but there will be snacks and drinks at every class. You are welcome to bring your own dinner with you and eat during the class.
How much is the class?
- The class is $50 per couple. The cost covers materials (one notebook each), as well as snacks and drinks for the eight sessions. If two-to-two counseling is desired, there will be an additional $25 charge to pay for the PREPARE inventory.
Am I eligible to save $60 off my Texas marriage license fees if I complete the class?
- Yes - Watermark’s Premarital program has passed the requirements of Twogether in Texas and all couples who complete the class will be eligible to save $60 off of their Texas marriage license fees. Please let us know if you prefer to receive a certificate upon completion of the class.
