Elam was founded in 1990 by senior Iranian church leaders with a vision to serve the growing church in the Iran region.
From the beginning, Elam's passion was to train and equip Iranian Christians to reach and disciple their countrymen. Over the past 26 years, Elam has seen God's faithfulness as the ministry has grown and been used to strengthen and expand the church in the Iran region in a significant way.
This happens through current believers living in Iran, but it also happens through exiled believers who have lost virtually everything they had in Iran because they accepted Christ. Those believers rejected the false teaching of Islam that their family and friends had embraced for generations.
Watermark teams have partnered with Elam since 2014 to join in the training of pastors and church leaders in London (where there is a large Iranian Christian population) and in Turkey (where many Iranians live as refugees). Watermark teams help equip them to shepherd, disciple, and equip other, newer Iranian believers. Watermark has also assisted Elam with resources to provide for the basic needs of the Iranian refugees living in Turkey and other parts of Europe.
