Serve with Tapestry

Here are some broad categories with a brief description to help you think about where you would like to serve on the continuum of care in family restoration, foster care, and adoption. Identify 1 or 2 categories (i.e. Family Support and Administration) you are interested in getting involved and email those preferences to our leadership team so that we can connect with you. Please keep your bandwidth in mind as you consider how you hope to serve.

Category 1: Prevention – working with birth parents to restore their families and be reunified with their children; opportunities may include:

  • Teaching parenting classes
  • Transportation to classes and/or weekly visits
  • Mentoring
  • Job skills training
  • Assistance identifying resources (i.e. housing, medical care, etc.)

Category 2: Family Support – sustaining birth, kinship, foster & adoptive parents and foster & adoptive children during and after the foster care or adoption experiences; opportunities may include:

  • facilitating support groups
  • crisis intervention & response team
  • coordinating provision of basic needs
  • peer-to-peer mentoring
  • parenting education (i.e. Empowered to Connect)

Category 3: Recruitment – encouraging and equipping families to open their homes to foster and adopt; opportunities may include:

  • organizing, hosting, roundtable leadership for Intro to Adoption
  • organizing and hosting foster care & adoption licensing classes with Buckner or CK Family Services
  • managing an adoption & assistance fund

Category 4: Transition Services – helping foster youth transition into adulthood effectively; opportunities may include:

  • mentoring/become a CASA
  • coordinating provision of basic needs
  • Job skills training
  • Assistance identifying resources (i.e. housing, medical care, ongoing education (GED, college))

Category 5: Advocacy – working with government, public, and private organizations to better serve vulnerable children & families; opportunities may include:

  • Partnering with schools and colleges to address educational and development delays in foster/adopted children & youth
  • Building & maintaining relationships with city, county, state and federal government officials
  • Coordinating actionable advocacy opportunities within Watermark and other stakeholders in child welfare

Category 6: Administration – coordinating volunteers and supplementing staff to address organizational needs; opportunities may include:

  • Volunteer management
  • Social networking, communication, newsletter
  • Event planning/coordination
