Since we started in Genesis last August, kids in Starting Blocks have been hearing the teaching truths, “God had a plan to rescue the world from sin,” and “God always keeps His promises.” They heard them again this week with the additional truth that, “Jesus will come again.” Take a few minutes to let those truths sink into your heart. As I do, it makes me want to shout Revelation 22:20, “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!”
HIGHLIGHTS from Sunday…
This week your child learned that John, while a prisoner on the Island of Patmos, was visited by Jesus. Jesus instructed John to write down all that he was about to see and hear. Jesus revealed His glory and all about the eternal home He has prepared for those who love and follow Him. (Revelation 1, 4, 5, 19, 20, 21)
- God has a plan to rescue the world from sin.
- God always keeps His promises.
- Jesus will come again.
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever." Psalm 107:1 (NIV)
Here’s a simple song to help your child (and you) memorize this week’s memory verse!
3 Activities that remind us that Jesus will come again:
Help your child make a mobile to remind him that heaven is an incredible place. Grab a couple of sheets of white card stock, help your child fold each paper in half and half again, so you have four squares per paper and cut them apart. Using six of the squares, have your child write one letter to the word “HEAVEN” on one side of each of the squares. Let your child decorate the squares with crayons, stickers and jewels. On the other side of the squares write these phrases
H is for Happy
E is for Eternal Life
A is for Angels
V is for Very Beautiful
E is for Every Believer
N is for No Evil
Once the squares are decorated, punch a hole in the top of each square and tie a ribbon or yarn to it. Then tie the ribbons to a hanger in the order that spells the word HEAVEN.
2. God on His Throne
Grab an empty shoe box and cover the outside with shiny wrapping paper and let
your child decorate it with jewels, crayons and stickers. On the inside of the box
have your child decorate it in rainbow colors. Cut a piece of white cardstock to fit the opening of the box, leaving a little on each edge so you can tape it to each
side. Cut the card stock in half down the middle and let your child decorate the gates to heaven. Once he has finished, tape the sides of the gates to the box so it will open in the middle. Inside the box, place a dollhouse size chair and figure to represent God sitting on his throne or have your child make a chair and figure out of Legos. Once the box is finished talk with your child about what the Bible says heaven will be like and ask him these questions.
1. Who is coming back to take us to our forever home?
2. What will our forever home be like?
3. Heaven Chant
Say this chant with your child having him fill in the blank with friends or family
Heaven is a wonderful place
It’s full of love and full of God’s grace
In heaven, there will be no wrong
And I want to take ______ along.
Dear God, thank you for paying for my sin so I can be with you in my forever home. You have a special place for me. Help me to serve you well while I wait to go to that home. Amen.
