Evening With The Elders FAQ

On Sunday evening our elders gave us an update on the health of Watermark as well as some exciting news about what's ahead. We asked people to text in questions and due to the overwhelming response, we couldn’t answer them all that night. Below you’ll find short answers to some of the questions that came up as well as some announcements that were made. These answers aren’t meant to be exhaustive, but rather to provide you with resources where you can find further information.

Questions To The Elders

1. What’s Watermark’s View on Women teachers and elders?

2. Is Watermark a cessationist church?

3. What is Watermark’s stance on the “sign gifts” such as tongues, prayer language, prophecy, etc.?

4. Why Does Watermark Have Satellite Campuses?

5. What is your view on counselors and medication?

6. What does it mean that JP is now the Dallas campus pastor? Where’s Todd going?

Each of our satellite campuses have a campus pastor that provides leadership and vision to that specific campus, Gary Stroope in Ft. Worth and Kyle Kaigler in Plano. JP will now be stepping into that role for our Dallas campus. Todd will continue to use his leadership and teaching gifts across all three campuses. Click play on the video below to hear more.

7. Is Watermark starting a Saturday night service?

10. Why does Watermark want members only in community groups?

11. Does Watermark have any plans to start additional campuses?

We are always praying and asking the Lord to show us how we can partner with Him to make more fully devoted followers of Christ (please pray with us.) However at this time we have no announcements regarding additional campuses.

12. Would Todd consider using his gifts through politics?

At this time there are no plans for Todd to run for political office. Todd will continue to use his gifts of leadership and teaching at Watermark across our three campuses.

13. Has there been any consideration in creating a Watermark private school (K-12)?

At this time there are no plans for Watermark to create a private school.

14. What is Watermark’s view on communion?

15. Is there any other mechanism for fostering community group formation other than GroupLink?

Sure! One of the best ways for community groups to form is organically; that is asking others that you know to be a part of your community. Additionally, affinity groups are a great way to meet new people and start community groups (Men's and Women’s Bible study, regen, reengage, core classes, etc.) Click play on the video below for Todd’s answer to this question.

16. What are some questions or ways we can increase authenticity in our community group?

17. Can a marriage destroyed by betrayal be still recovered and redeemed?

Yes! We hear stories like this regularly through our marriage ministry, re|engage. Check out this link to hear some of these stories.

18. How does someone that goes to Watermark know he or she is a member?

To become a member at Watermark you must:

  • Make a written statement of your faith in Christ and intent, with God’s help, to pursue a life that will bring glory to God;
  • Meet face to face with a member of our testimony team to have your testimony confirmed (you will also be asked to provide a written copy of your testimony.)
  • Agree to the Beliefs and Governance of Watermark Community Church;
  • Attend the church’s two-part New Member Class;
  • Become part of a community group;
  • Choose and commit to an area of service; and
  • Sign the Membership Covenant.

19. Does Watermark have a list of opportunities to serve that enable community groups to serve together?

Yes! Our External focus ministry sends an email every month with serving opportunities. You can sign up for that here. You can also jump in with any of our external ministry partners by clicking HERE.

20. Can Watermark address our culture's worship of food and gluttony?

23. How much of Watermark’s budget goes to missions?

24. What is Watermark doing to reach the Spanish population?

We’re excited about reaching the Spanish population, and we've even added someone on our staff full-time to lead this area. Please contact Oscar for more information and to get involved.

27. Can Todd expand on the book that he’s writing?

28. Would you ever consider offering group link more than a couple times a year?

29. How can the men of our body grow in their relationship with God?

One way we do this is through our men’s Bible study, Summit, where men can join small groups of other men. Additionally, be sure to check out our upcoming Dad's class, Unashamed, Equipped Disciple, and our Core Classes.
