Tale-of-2-Sons-Resource

Did you leave after hearing Sunday’s message and think, “Well, now what?” Each Sunday, we will provide a discussion guide for our church body designed to create a conversation about what we’re learning. We encourage you to prayerfully gather with your family, friends and community group and dive into how to apply Sunday’s teaching from God’s Word to your life.

  1. JP talked about how his heart drifted from being the prodigal son to the cynical, church-going older brother. Did you identify with this? Are there areas of your life that resemble a critical church-goer?
  2. There is a difference between a master / slave relationship and a father / son relationship. The master / slave relationship is based on merit and accomplishing tasks without love. The father / son relationship is built on a foundation of love and driven by relational intimacy. Do either of these describe your relationship to God? If so, in what ways?
  3. Discuss among your community group ways that you tend to be critical of the ways God is working in the lives of others. Encourage one another with the truth that God’s unmerited favor applies to us all (Gal 4:4-7).
  4. What practical steps can you take consistently to invest in relational intimacy with God? Discuss with your community what you can do to cultivate your love for God.
