Watermark's Premarital Process

We are excited that you and your significant other are considering engagement and/or marriage, and we would like to assist you as you begin the premarital process. Please read through the steps  described below, read our Frequently Asked Questions for additional information and contact Emily McKeaigg if you have any questions.

Phase 1: Register for and take the Watermark Premarital Class

Spring Session - thursdays, April 8-may 27, 2010, 6:30 - 8:30 PM - Register Now!

Our Premarital Class is designed for both engaged and dating couples who are seriously considering marriage. The Premarital class is the first phase of the Watermark marriage process and serves as an introduction to the biblical foundations of marriage. Our program is designed to help you address common problems that most couples face. You do not need to attend Watermark or be a member to take the class.

The class meets once a week for eight weeks (or twice a week for four weeks over the summer), with each two hour class being devoted to a specific topic (such as communication and conflict, finances, and sexual intimacy).  The class is half lecture and half group discussion.  Couples are assigned a table by life stage and interact together with other engaged or seriously dating couples.  A married mentor couple who is selected and trained by the Watermark Marriage Ministry team facilitates each table.

Phase 2: AFTER the class: Start the Mentoring Process

The next phase is designed for couples that are engaged and want to continue the Premarital process through Watermark.  During this part of the process engaged couples will meet four to six times with either a staff member or a staff-approved married mentor couple. The meeting times will be structured around the PREPARE Inventory (designed to help provide an objective focus on critical relationship issues) and any issues raised, as well as any topics the engaged or mentor couple think would be helpful.

To begin phase 2 of the process (premarital counseling), you must have already completed the premarital class. We will do our best to provide premarital counseling for all couples, but priority will go to those couples that are members and have completed the class.

If you have completed the class, and would like two-on-two premarital counseling, please print, fill out and sign this Informational Document and send it to Emily McKeaigg by fax (214-361-6519) or mail (Watermark Community Church Attn: Emily McKeaigg 7540 LBJ Freeway, Dallas, TX 75251). You may also fill out the document and email back to Emily McKeaigg.

Once we have received the Informational Document, you will take the PREPARE Inventory. The Inventory will reveal strengths and growth areas that your mentor couple will discuss with you during your pre-marital counseling. The PREPARE is $25 per couple and payment may be mailed to Watermark (address shown above). You need to mail in your payment prior to receiving the link to take the PREPARE Inventory. Once you have completed the class, filled out the informational documents, and mailed in your payment, you will each be emailed the link to complete the Prepare Inventory.
