My favorite things to do in life are drinking a good cup of coffee while reading the newspaper cover to cover, cooking for friends and family (I used to cater in college), all things arty: museums, symphony, opera, etc., and teaching women about most anything from God’s Truth. In addition, I have the world’s smartest golden retriever named Mr. Bingley (yes, Jane Austen fans after the infamous Mr. Bingley from Pride and Prejudice) who I allow to rule a better part of my life. I am a ridiculous Dallas Cowboys fan dating back to the glory days of the 70’s, Roger Staubach and Tom Landry…oh the trauma that pursuit has brought me through the years. Because my father was Iranian, I was named after an Iranian Princess named Princess Soraya. It therefore doesn’t offend me if you want to call me princess, just as an FYI.
I became a believer when I was eight years old, not because of a Sunday school teacher, or even my mom. I just remember walking up to my pastor and telling him I needed to have Jesus in my heart “RIGHT NOW,” and would he please tell me how to do that? The next fourteen years were not marked by walking with Jesus however, as no one taught me what it meant to have a relationship with Him.
When I was twenty-two years old, I made a radical decision to give up my wild ways and “give God a shot.” That was the beginning of a passionate pursuit of being a part of what God was/is doing in the lives of His people. I was discipled by some incredibly godly women at Denton Bible Church in Denton, Texas. I never really recovered from the idea that God wanted me to be with Him, that He would/is redeeming my past mistakes, and most of all that He would give me the privilege of helping others, specifically women (of all ages) experience that same redemption.
